Ibiza through the ages with a dance music polymath.
"I always wanted Ibiza to be promoted and documented the right way," Ben Turner told Resident Advisor in 2014. Ever since he fell in love with the island in 1993, the dance music impresario has worked tirelessly towards that goal, first as a journalist for Melody Maker and later as a magazine editor, businessman, filmmaker, artist manager and promoter. Most recently, he cofounded the International Music Summit, an industry-lead conference that sought to bring a standard of professionalism to a scene that, in Turner's words, was at "rock bottom" in 2007.
The hard work continues to this day. As well as talks on drug policy and sexual harassment, this year's eleventh edition of IMS will feature a new wellness retreat called Remedy State. But, despite his undying love for Ibiza, Turner is also honest and realistic about its future. When he visited our Berlin office for a chat with RA's Ibiza correspondent, Carlos Hawthorn, he spoke openly about some of the tougher issues affecting the White Isle in 2018.
