Talking artists and repertoire with the head of Aus Music.
Will Saul is a great DJ and an accomplished producer, but he also excels at A&Ring. Today, he's head of A&R at !K7, expanding the company's management roster with acts like Bwana, Portable and DJ Tennis. He got the job because of his work with Aus Music, the label he started in 2006, which is now merged with !K7. The deal was validation of Saul's canny A&Ring over the years. In less than a decade, Aus grew into one of the UK's foremost club music outlets, releasing a long line of killer 12-inches by the likes of Joy Orbison, Midland, Ramadanman (AKA Pearson Sound), Bicep, George FitzGerald, Dusky and Huxley. More recently, FOLD, Randomer and Cassy have joined the stable—the latter for her long-awaited debut album. When he swung by RA's London office for a chat with Carlos Hawthorn, Saul discussed the ups and downs of label management, working with artists and the journey to Aus reaching 100 releases.
