It originally came out on the Detroit house mainstay's own Harmonie Park label.
The Michigan native is a key architect of the Detroit deep house sound, having gotten his start as a bass and hip-hop DJ before developing a lush, string-laden style developed over a prolific stream of EPs released from the mid-'90s up to the present. Wade's Late Night Basix series, consisting of two parts released in 1994 and 1998 on his Harmonie Park label, hold up as a distillation of his classic sound.
"Punchy drums, and a standard house tempo, so you could dance to it, but the melody and the vibe was very melancholy," is how Wade describes his formula in the press release. In the time leading up to and intersecting the release of Late Night Basix, Wade worked at Detroit's Record Time shop alongside the likes of Mike Huckaby, Claude Young and Daniel Bell.
Spectral will reissue Late Night Basix Vol. 2 in a vinyl edition of 250.
